In need of a fresh arm in the bullpen in anticipation of their trip out west, the Brewers purchased the contract of right-handed reliever Vinnie Chulk from Triple-A Nashville this past weekend.

To make room for Chulk, the Brewers optioned reliever Mike McClendon to Nashville after throwing 96 pitches in two appearances last week.

The 33-year-old Chulk has previously pitched at the big league level in Toronto, San Francisco and Cleveland, but hasn’t been on a big league roster since 2009. At Nashville this season, Chulk pitched 11 1/3 innings with a 3.18 ERA.

With Chulk needing to be added to the 40-man roster, Milwaukee announced it would move left-hander Chris Narveson to the 60-day DL from the 15-day DL. Narveson’s season will officially end Tuesday when he undergoes surgery on his torn left rotator cuff.
