Braves place Freeman (wrist) on 15-day DL, promote OF Terdoslavich
ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves will have to go a little longer without their lineup anchor.
On Tuesday, the club placed first baseman Freddie Freeman (wrist injury) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 18, meaning the one-time All-Star (2013) could possibly return by July 3, when the Braves open a three-game home series against the Phillies.
Leading up to the transaction, which clears a roster spot for outfielder Joey Terdoslavich, Freeman (12 homers, 41 RBI, 43 runs, .299 batting, .367 on-base percentage) had essentially been a day-to-day injury concern.
Freeman (162 games in 2014) went hitless in three at-bats against the Red Sox on June 17 -- his last game before injury.
But from June 1-16, spanning 15 games, Freeman raked the ball to all fields, notching five homers, 15 RBI, 14 runs, a .344 batting average and 1.070 OPS.
According to Braves.com writer Mark Bowman, the Braves have not released the results of Freeman's MRI from Monday. But the preliminary outlook suggests there isn't any long-term structural damage.
