After four days in San Francisco, sourbread, Ghirardelli chocolate, and crisp, refreshing 50-degree weather, the Grateful Dead is still ringing in my ears.
"What a long, strange trip, it's been!"
Who would've thought after dropping two of three in Washington and the first two at AT&T Park that the Braves would rally to split the series in San Francisco, and start the new week in San Diego one half game CLOSER to the Nationals than when the trip began?!
That's right, with Washington's four game slide, the Braves begin play Monday night in San Diego just 4 1/2 games out of first!
And after a slow start, the Braves bats are "Truckin" again. Brian McCann popped three hits Sunday night (5-game hit streak), Jason Heyward hit three homers in SF, and Freddie Freeman added his third homer of the trip too. Toss in another gem by Tim Hudson (7 innings of 5-hit ball), and all of a sudden you have a ball club getting ready to go on another roll.
Now that the Braves are through with the Giants, they play only six more games out of their 34 remaining against teams with winning records. That's right. SIX. Washington at home September 14-16, and the final three games on the road against the Pirates. A great September is there for the taking.
Let's see if the Braves grab opportunity in SoCal.
We start play Monday night at 10:05 against RHP Casey Kelly who makes his MLB debut for the Padres who have won seven straight. Paul Maholm goes to work for the Braves. Joe and I will join you from Petco Park at 9:30 on SportSouth. We'll see you there!
