Braun out of lineup Friday vs San Francisco

Updated Nov. 10, 2022 1:50 p.m. ET

Milwaukee Brewers star left fielder Ryan Braun is not in the lineup for tonight's game in San Francisco.

Braun hurt his right Achilles on a slide during Tuesday's game against the Padres. The next game, Braun left with tightness in the muscle, but the injury was not expected to be that serious.

"It's still just tight in the Achilles, and we'll try to give it another day," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. Roenicke also added that Braun's Achilles has improved since Tuesday, but not well enough to play on Friday or possibly Saturday.

The left fielder will be reassessed before Saturday's afternoon game.

Braun had just started to heat up after overcoming a slow start and a sickness that hampered him in the first few weeks of the season. Last week against the Padres, he hit three homers for the first time in his career. In 24 games this season, Braun was batting .283 with seven home runs and 17 RBI.

With Braun out of the lineup, center fielder Carlos Gomez will bat in the leadoff spot with second basemen Rickie Weeks slotted in the second spot. Right fielder Corey Hart will bat in Braun's No. 3 spot. Roenicke said the change with Weeks may be a lasting one.

"I may leave Rickie there for a little while," Roenicke said. "That wasn't just because of Braunie. I talked to Rickie today and we're going to try to do some things to get the offense going a little bit."
