WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) Brittany Bowe and Joey Mantia won 1,000-meter races Sunday at the U.S. Long Track National Championships.
Bowe, of Ocala, Florida, had a winning time at the Pettit National Ice Center of 1:14.55. That was nearly three seconds faster than second-place Todd Sugar.
Bowe is the world-record holder at that distance.
Mantia, also of Ocala, won the men's 1,000 in 1:08.38 to edge four-time Olympic medalist Shani Davis by one hundredth of a second. Mantia also beat Davis in the 1,500 on Saturday. Davis holds the 1,000-meter world record.
Bowe's victory was made easier by the absence of teammate Heather Bergsma, who is training in the Netherlands. The skaters recently have been trading world records and Bowe would have liked the extra challenge.
