Coach Ken Hitchcock had trouble remembering what he had witnessed after his team rallied for a 4-3 win over Edmonton on Thursday night.
The Blues were down 3-1 after 40 minutes but scored twice in the opening 1:48 of the third period and netted the game-winner midway through the period.
"It's one of these I'd like to see the tape again, see how the hell it went right and what the hell went wrong," Hitchcock said.
What went right was the power-play unit, which picked up goals by Alex Pietrangelo and David Backes to tie the score 3-3. Pietrangelo's goal came 20 seconds into the third period.
"It was a huge goal, right off the bat, and you could tell once we got that first one, the momentum was on our side and then we got another one," Blues defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo said. "We talked about it. A two-goal lead is the worst lead in hockey."
Matt D'Agostini netted the game-winner, a goal that was also assisted by Colaiacovo, giving him helpers on all three third-period goals. It marked only the team's third win this season when trailing after 40 minutes.
"At the end of the day, a win is a win, but when you find a way to win like this, it's huge," Colaiacovo said. "It makes you believe that you're a great team. It makes you believe that when you play the way you're supposed to play, good things happen."
The Blues are home against Colorado on Saturday.
