Blues sign Bouwmeester to 5-year extension

ST. LOUIS -- The Blues announced today that they have agreed to a five-year contract extension with veteran defenseman Jay Bouwmeester.
Bouwmeester was traded to the Blues last season from Calgary and had one year left on his current contract, meaning he will now be signed through the 2018-19 season. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the deal is worth $24 million.
Bouwmeester was drafted 3rd overall in the 2002 NHL Draft, and has scored 72 goals and registered 235 assists in 764 games played with the Florida Panthers, Flames and Blues.
