Blue Jackets' Foligno, Blackhawks' Toews named captains for NHL All-Star Game
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The National Hockey League announced Wednesday the captains for the 2015 NHL All-Star Game in Columbus on Jan. 25.
Adding to a magical year and his first selection to an All-Star game, the Blue Jackets Nick Foligno was named as one of the captains for this year's All-Star Game. The Chicago Blackhawks' Jonathan Toews was named as the other captain.
Team Foligno will have Los Angeles Kings' Drew Doughty and Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Kane as Assistant Capatins. Wearing the "A" for Team Toews will be former Blue Jacket and current New York Ranger Rick Nash along with Ryan Getzlaf of the Anaheim Ducks.
Team Foligno and Team Toews will draft their teams at the fantasy draft on Friday, January 23 in the Greater Columbus Convention Center, home of the NHL FanFair. They will also set their rosters for the skills competition that takes place at Nationwide Arena on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Team Foligno will be the "home" team and wear the previously unveiled black NHL All-Star jerseys. Team Toews will be the "away" team and wear the white jerseys. The teams will be coached by the Los Angeles Kings' Darryl Sutter and members of his coaching staff (Team Foligno) and the Nashville Predators Peter Laviolette and members of his staff (Team Toews).
This will be Foligno's first appearance as an All-Star. Toews is making his fourth All-Star appearance. Among the assistant captains, this is Doughty's first ASG appearance. Kane (fourth), Getzlaf (third) and Nash (sixth) have all been on this stage before.
The fantasy draft will be televised on NBCSN in the United States and in Canada on Sportsnet and TVA Sports at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24.
