The Phoenix Suns are hopeful that point guard Eric Bledsoe will return to action during the second half of the season following arthroscopic surgery on the meniscus cartilage in his right knee.
The Suns said the surgery was performed by team Dr. Thomas Carter and described the procedure as successful. "Bledsoe will immediately begin a recovery and rehabilitation program and will pursue a possible return to action during the second half of this NBA season," the team said in a prepared statement.
Bledsoe has averaged 18.0 points, 5.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 24 games this season, his first with the Suns. He's missed 10 games this season due to the knee injury and an earlier shin injury. The Suns (21-13) are 5-5 without him.
Goran Dragic takes over as primary point guard in Bledsoe's absence, with reserve Ish Smith expected to get continued increased playing time. Veteran Leandro Barbosa signed a 10-day contract this week and is also expected to help fill the void in the backcourt.
