Bertuzzi has mono, could miss several weeks

What looked like the flu is more serious than that.

Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi didn't make the trip to St. Louis because, according to coach Mike Babcock, "He's sick."

"They’re going to give him an IV or something and he'll probably join us (Saturday) or the next day," Babcock said Friday. "If not, he’ll join us in Columbus."

Well, Bertuzzi is sicker than was originally thought. FOX Sports Detroit's John Keating reports from St. Louis that  Bertuzzi has mononucleosis and could miss several weeks of the 48-game regular season.

The illness will certainly test the depth up front for the Wings, who open the season Saturday night against the Blues.
