Bengals left tackle Andrew Whitworth wasn't expected to play in Sunday's season opener at Chicago and now it's official.
The team announced Saturday afternoon that Whitworth will be listed as out and will not play against the Bears. Whitworth had offseason knee surgery and his rehab process has been slower than was originally hoped. He started training camp practicing but has done so sparingly since. He did not play in any of the four preseason games.
Sixth-year player Anthony Collins will start in place of Whitworth. It will be be Collins' first start since Dec. 18, 2011, when he started at right tackle in place of an injured Andre Smith at St. Louis. He'll be matched up against Bears defensive end Julius Peppers.
