FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. -- The Bengals have officially listed linebacker Rey Maualuga out for Thursday night's game at Miami after he suffered a knee injury and concussion in last Sunday's 49-9 win against the New York Jets.
Maualuga and defensive tackle Devin Still (elbow) will not play against the Dolphins (3-4) as the Bengals (6-2) attempt to extend their win streak to five games. The Bengals placed safety Taylor Mays (shoulder) on injured reserve earlier in the day. They put cornerback Leon Hall (Achilles) on IR on Tuesday.
Five players are listed as questionable to play against the Dolphins: linebacker Michael Boley (hamstring), running back Rex Burkhead (hamstring), defensive end Wallace Gilberry (groin), wide receiver Mohamed Sanu (shoulder) and left tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee). Boley, who stepped in for Maualuga after he was hurt against the Jets, and Whitworth have not practiced this week. Burkhead, Gilberry and Sanu were limited in practice on Wednesday before the team flew to South Florida.
If Whitworth cannot play, expect Anthony Collins to take his place. Collins started the season opener at Chicago and kept Julius Peppers without a tackle or sack.
The Bengals signed J.K. Schaffer to the 53-man roster off of the practice squad on Tuesday. It is Schaffer's second call-up of the season. He also played against Pittsburgh in Week 2. His role is expected to be mostly on special teams.
The moves of Mays and Hall to the IR in the last two days brings the Bengals' season total to seven players, all on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive linemen Larry Black and Robert Geathers, and linebackers Brandon Joiner, Sean Porter and Emmanuel Lamur were already on the season-ending list.
Wide receiver Andrew Hawkins is the team's IR/Designated to return player. He's been practicing with the team the last couple of weeks and is eligible to be added to the roster for this game if the Bengals wish to do so. Hawkins suffered a severe ankle injury in the preseason.
