ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Carlos Beltran became the first switch hitter in major league history to record 300 home runs and 300 steals when he stole second against the Kansas City Royals.
Beltran stole his seventh base in nine attempts in the second inning Friday night, and his 300th in 343 attempts overall. Then he was caught stealing after a pickoff throw by Vin Mazzaro and easily thrown out at third.
Beltran had 321 career homers, including a National League-leading 19 this season.
