Belted short shorts for Wolverines?

Belted short shorts for Wolverines?

Later this month, the Michigan Wolverines will wear their fifth different basketball uniform of the season.

This one had the potential to be something truly old-school geeky.

The Michigan athletic department announced on Wednesday that, as part of the dedication ceremonies for the renovated Crisler Center, the Wolverines will wear white 1968 throwback jerseys against Penn State on Feb. 17.

Michigan wore short shorts in 1968, which would be unusual enough in 2013, but the late-1960s shorts had an even stranger feature — belts.

Photographic evidence from the 1967-68 and 1968-69 seasons shows the Wolverines wearing belted uniforms.

Although Adidas said that the uniforms would be "identical" to those worn in 1968, sadly for the geek in all of us, Michigan confirmed late Thursday that short shorts and belts are not included.

Michigan wore maize-on-maize uniforms for Tuesday's overtime victory over Ohio State.
