The folks at the UC athletics department have cooked up a unique promotion to encourage fans to fill Fifth Third Arena this winter, and it is based on the Bearcats' ability to play defense.
What's the deal? From now until Feb. 1, the department is selling upper bleacher level seats to the rest of the Bearcats' home games for $70, and that price will improve with every home game in which Cincinnati holds visiting opponents below 70 points, something they have done 24 games in a row.
"Our home court advantage inside a packed Fifth Third Arena is one of the best in the country," head coach Mick Cronin said in a release. "Our defense is energized by our fans and this ticket opportunity gives our fans a reason to be our true sixth man. When our defense plays well, they win the opportunity to keep coming back."
Right now the $70 price covers home games against Temple, UCF, South Florida, Connecticut, Houston, Louisville and Memphis, but the school is sweetening the deal by agreeing to shave $10 off the price for every game the streak of holding visitors under 70 points continues. UC will do that by offering a $10 ticket credit for each time it happens.
In case that is confusing, the school provided the following explanations and examples:

For example, if the Louisville Cardinals are the first team to score over 70 points on the Bearcats, you will receive $50 in ticket credits for next season.
-- If you do not order before the home game against Temple -- Order tickets to games against UCF, USF, UCONN, Houston, Louisville, and Memphis for $70. For every game the streak continues, you will receive $10 in ticket credits for next season. For example, if the Louisville Cardinals are the first team to score over 70 points on the Bearcats, you will receive $40 in ticket credits for next season.
-- If you do not order before the home game against UCF -- Order tickets to games against USF, UCONN, Houston, Louisville, and Memphis for $70. For every game the streak continues, you will receive $10 in ticket credits for next season. For example, if the Louisville Cardinals are the first team to score over 70 points on the Bearcats, you will receive $30 in ticket credits for next season.
-- The ticket credit portion of this promotion will only end if the Bearcats give up over 70 points at home during the remainder of the season but all fans will still have tickets for the remaining games this season. If the Bearcats defense holds all remaining home opponents to under 70 points, fans who purchase this package will have between $50 and $70 in ticket credits for next season, depending on which package they purchased. The ticket credit may not be used on single game tickets and must be redeemed before December 31, 2014.
