Baruta wins Senator Ken Maddy Stakes at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Baruta won the $100,000 Sen. Ken Maddy Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths Sunday on closing day of Santa Anita's autumn meet.
Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Brazil-bred Baruta ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:12.96 and paid $11.60, $6.20 and $4.40 at 9-2 odds.
Velvet Mesquite returned $7.40 and $5.40, while Theatre Star was another half-length back in third and paid $3.80 to show.
The victory, worth $60,000, increased Baruta's career earnings to $313,558, with six wins in 21 starts.

Doug O'Neill won the ninth race to edge Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer 12-11 to win the trainer's title. He had two other winners on the card.
Bejarano earned the jockeys' title 25-15 over second-place Mario Gutierrez.
