ARLINGTON, Texas – Dan Bailey kicked his third game-winning field goal of the last month on Sunday, giving the Cowboys a 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
His final kick came from 21 yards away. But it could've been longer.
Bailey came out to attempt a 60-yarder with 32 seconds left in regulation, however, the Cowboys called a timeout and reconsidered. Bailey said he wanted to give it a try.
"I don't want to speak for anybody else but as far as I was concerned, I was going to kick it," Bailey said. "I was ready to go out there. I was confident. Obviously, we re-evaluated it and chose a different path. I thought I was going to kick it. Either way, it worked out."
Bailey said he has converted kicks from that distance at Cowboys Stadium, the only difference from Sunday is that those attempts came last year during practice.
The Cowboys decided to punt and the Steelers chose to kneel out the fourth-quarter clock. Following a Brandon Carr interception that was returned to Pittsburgh's one-yard line, Tony Romo kneeled the ball to center up the kick for Bailey, who improved to 25-of-27 on field-goal attempts this season.
"You always enjoy those moments," Bailey said. "Every game it's very rare that you get a lot of opportunities. The more chances you can have to get out there and help the team out the better. And it's always fun to put the final points on the board."
