Wisconsin withstood a late rally from the University of Ottawa to hang on for a 101-92 victory in the Badgers' second Canadian exhibition game in as many days Thursday night. For the second consecutive game, forward Sam Dekker led the Badgers in scoring, totaling 20 points on an efficient 9 for 11 field-goal shooting. He also added eight rebounds and seven assists. Joining Dekker in double figures scoring was guard Ben Brust (18 points), guard George Marshall (15 points), forward Duje Dukan (14 points) and forward Frank Kaminsky (12 points) Wisconsin had no trouble connecting from behind the arc despite the longer international 3-point distance. UW made 15 of 26 3-point attempts (57.6 percent). Brust buried five 3-pointers, while Marshall and Dukan each made three 3-pointers. Dukan has emerged as one of the more pleasant surprises in Wisconsin's lineup thus far and is averaging 12.0 points over two games. Dukan, a fourth-year junior, took a redshirt year last season with a crowded frontcourt but could be in line for significant contributions given the departure of Wisconsin's three frontcourt starters. He has appeared in 21 games in his Badgers career, none for longer than 11 minutes. Badgers coach Bo Ryan used the same three-guard starting lineup as the night before, when Wisconsin lost 95-82 against Canadian powerhouse Carleton. Traevon Jackson (six points, five rebounds) started in the backcourt alongside Brust and Josh Gasser (three points in 17 minutes). Dekker and Kaminsky started in the frontcourt. Wisconsin led by 20 points, 71-51, on Brust's free throw with 14:31 remaining. Ottawa cut the lead to six points at 85-79 with 3:22 left in the game, but the Badgers didn't allow the Gee-Gees to get any closer. Wisconsin used a four-guard lineup down the stretch of George Marshall, Zak Showalter, Jackson and Brust, along with Dekker, as the Badgers tried to combat Ottawa's speedy guards. Mike L'Africain led Ottawa with 24 points, and Johnny Berhanemeskel scored 23. Wisconsin's reserves won a 10-minute extra session 19-16 against Ottawa. Freshman guard Riley Dearring scored seven points, forward Nigel Hayes added six points and forward Vitto Brown tallied four points, six rebounds and two blocks. The Badgers improved to 1-1 on their five-game, eight-day trip. Wisconsin returns to action Saturday in Toronto against A-Game Hoops, a select team comprised mainly of Canadians who are playing professionally overseas. A-Game Hoops has played 10 NCAA Division I teams over the last three summers, going 6-4 with victories against Tulsa, Austin Peay and the College of Charleston last year. Box score: Wisconsin: B.
