Badgers notch first Big Ten hockey win of year
At Columbus, Ohio, the Wisconsin men's hockey squad secured its first Big Ten regulation win of the season on Saturday night, topping host Ohio State by a 3-2 margin.
Freshman Adam Rockwood notched the night's game-winning goal, firing home a score off an assist from teammate Joseph LaBate at 15:41 of the third period. That helped Wisconsin up its record to 3-19-4 overall and 1-9-2-2 in conference play.
LaBate had tied the game at 2-all midway through the second period, when he lit the lamp at 12:09 of the period. Earlier, Grant Besse scored for the Badgers.
Besse, Rockwood and LaBate all recorded a goal and an assist to lead Wisconsin. Netminder Joel Rumpel also greatly aided the Badgers' effort, recording 28 saves.
Ohio State (8-16-2 overall, 3-9-0-0 Big Ten) was paced on Saturday night by sophomore goalie Christian Frey, who posted 25 saves.
Wisconsin returns to action next Friday at 8 p.m. against Michigan State, at the Kohl Center.
