MADISON, Wis. — From Cosmo Kramer lookalike to Cosmopolitan, Wisconsin forward Mike Bruesewitz continues to steal the national spotlight for his poofy head of red hair.
Bruesewitz has been listed among Cosmopolitan Magazine's 26 "Hottest Guys of March Madness 2013." The list notes: "Aside from his impressive moves on the court, there's just something about Mike's ginger fro that makes us swoon."
When informed about the inclusion on Tuesday, Bruesewitz sounded flattered.
"I deserve to be on that list," he said. "I worked extremely hard to be on that list. I clearly am very concerned about my appearance at all times."
Bruesewitz grew out his mop-topped fro two seasons ago as a sophomore and later shaved his hair to help support the fight against multiple sclerosis. He went with a short cropped look as a junior but decided to re-grow his famous red locks this season at the behest of his grandmother so she could see him on her television set.
Last month, Bruesewitz received a trim that accentuated his hair in a way that made it look as though he'd stuck his finger in a light socket a la Seinfeld character Cosmo Kramer. Clearly, the new look did little to deter Cosmopolitan.
Bruesewitz's teammates weren't so sure about the magazine's choice.
"I think that's our first major upset in March right there," Wisconsin center Jared Berggren said. "I have several sources that were shocked by the decision."
Added Badgers forward Sam Dekker: "I don't know who judges that stuff. They could have had anyone on this team, but they had to pick him."
