Badgers hockey knocks off Northern Michigan

MADISON -- Mark Zengerle and Nic Kerdiles had two assists apiece to pace the Wisconsin men's hockey squad in a 5-2 victory over Northern Michigan Friday night at the Kohl Center.
The Badgers got goals from five separate skaters as they strolled to a season-opening win. Joseph LaBate scored at 5:07 of the first period to get Wisconsin rolling.
Northern Michigan (0-1-0) closed to within 3-1 late in the second period, but C.J. Ludwig's score was promptly answered by Wisconsin's Tyler Barnes.
Meanwhile, Landon Peterson served Wisconsin solidly in the net, recording 18 saves.
Wisconsin registered 38 shots on goal on the night, to Northern Michigan's 20. NMU was paced by netminder Mathias Dahlstrom's 33 saves.
