Badgers hockey doubles up Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The eighth-ranked Wisconsin men's hockey squad used a solid start to propel itself to a 4-2 victory at Ohio State on Saturday night.
The Badgers, now 17-9-2 overall and 8-5-1-0 in Big Ten play, seized an early, 2-0 lead by 11:50 of the first period, when standout Mark Zengerle lit the lamp.
Ohio State eventually clawed to within 3-2 following a Max McCormick goal early in the night's final stanza. However, the Badgers' defense stiffened, and Wisconsin's Nic Kerdiles added a last-second goal to seal the visitors' win.
The Badgers' effort was greatly aided by netminder Joel Rumpel, who recorded 28 saves en route to improving his personal mark to 14-4-1 on the season.
Ohio State (15-10-3, 5-6-3-2 Big Ten), which also got a goal from Nick Schilkey, lost despite outshooting Wisconsin, 30-28. The host Buckeyes were 0-for-4 on the power play Saturday.
