CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) Joe Burns reached a half century which helped Australia recover from the early loss of a wicket to reach 151-2 against New Zealand at lunch on the second day Sunday of the second test.
Burns was 78 not out and captain Steve Smith was 37 not out, both scoring freely in a third-wicket partnership which produced 84 runs.
Australia lost Usman Khawaja for 24 in the fourth over of the day, caught by Brendon McCullum at slip from the bowling of Trent Boult. At that point Australia, which resumed at 57-1, was 67-2 replying to New Zealand's first innings of 370.
