Aussie captain Smith charged with dissent after 2nd test
CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) Steve Smith has become the second Australian to be charged with dissent over an incident during the second cricket test against New Zealand.
Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined 15 percent of his match fee, or about $2,300, for angrily disputing a decision of the television umpire on Tuesday, the fourth day of the match.
Smith was charged by match referee Chris Broad of England on Wednesday after Australia completed a seven-wicket win and a 2-0 sweep of the series. He indicated he would also plead guilty and is expected to receive a similar sanction.
Smith confronted umpire Ranmore Martinesz after Australia's referral of an lbw against Kane Williamson was rejected by television official Richard Illingworth, backing up the initial not out decision.
