Former Brewers pitcher and current FOX Sports Wisconsin broadcaster Jerry Augustine weighed in on the news that Zack Greinke would miss up to a month with a rib injury.

Augustine said he's personally familiar with the injury Greinke suffered. "When I was in the minor leagues I did have a cracked rib, and I was out 2-4 weeks," he recalled, noting that the timetable isn't something the team should rush.

"The one thing you want to make sure, especially in the case of Zack Greinke, is you want to make sure that he's completely healed first," he said. "The injury is on his left side, the side he drives with, so any time you go to a certain spot to throw the ball it can change your delivery.

"The last thing they want is for Zack Greinke to change his delivery and develop some bad habits. They want to make sure he's completely healed and then bring him back slowly."

Augustine said the Brewers have the luxury of resting him now, but that Greinke probably would pitch through a similar injury if the season was on the line.

"If it's a situation like the postseason or late in the season, it is something you can probably pitch with," Augustine said. "But under the circumstances, with it happening now, they have the ability to not start the season with him and let him get healthy. You have to look at the long term, and doing it the way they're doing it is exactly the right way."

Augustine added that Greinke should have a huge impact on the Brewers
