Arizona State will be represented on defense and special teams in the annual East-West Shrine Game later this month, as senior punter Josh Hubner and senior safety Keelan Johnson have earned spots on the West roster.
Hubner's invitation was public knowledge in mid-December, but Johnson's did not come to light until the full rosters were announced this week. The game is to be played Jan. 19 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., and televised on the NFL Network.
Johnson, who earned All-Pac-12 honorable-mention recognition this season, led the Sun Devils with five interceptions and ranked third in the Pac-12 with 0.38 interceptions per game. He ranked second on the team in total tackles with 88 and 14th in the Pac-12 with 6.8 tackles per game. Johnson also ranked eighth in the conference with 1.00 passes defended per game.
Hubner, who also will play in the Casino Del Sol All-Star Game in Tucson, led the Pac-12 with 47.1 yards per punt, which ranked second in the nation. A semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, Hubner had 22 punts of 50 yards or more and put 38.4 percent of his punts inside the 20-yard line.
The East-West Shrine Game is an annual senior showcase game. ASU has three former players in the East-West Shrine Game Hall of Fame: running back Charley Taylor, safety Mike Haynes and linebacker Pat Tillman.
