TEMPE, Ariz. -- Four Arizona State University women's basketball players were recognized by the Pac-12 on Tuesday as the conference announced its annual awards for the 2013-14 season as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Recognized by the league were senior guard Deja Mann (All-Pac-12), junior guard Promise Amukamara (Pac-12 All-Defense) and freshmen Sophie Brunner and Kelsey Moos (Pac-12 Freshman Honorable Mention).
All four players played a major role in helping the Sun Devils, who were picked to finish ninth and 10th, by the media and coaches, respectively, in the Pac-12's preseason polls, conclude the regular season in fourth place in the league and earn up bye in this week's Pac-12 Tournament.
The only Sun Devil to start all 30 games this season, Mann is currently the team's leader in scoring (11.1 ppg), 3-pointers (46) and free throw percentage (85.4), is tied for second in assists (2.2 apg) and tied for third in steals (0.9 spg). Mann, who missed the entire 2012-13 season because of a knee injury, has scored in double figures 19 times this season and has connected on three or more 3-pointers eight times. Earlier this season she was named to the Cancun Challenge All-Tournament Team after averaging 14.0 ppg and connecting on 47 pct. of her 3-pointers (9-19) in ASU's wins over Illinois (game-high 20 points/6-9 FGs), No. 11 North Carolina (17 points/career-high five 3-point FGs) and Arkansas State.
Amukamara, who has started in 29 of the 30 games she has played in, currently leads the team in steals (1.7 spg) and is 4th in FG pct. (44.0) and assists (1.6 apg). Amukamara's brilliance on the defensive end has played a key role in several of ASU's wins this season. Amukamara has had a season-high four steals six times this season and has had a season-high five rebounds four times. Earlier this season Amukmara had key defensive plays in the final seconds of three consecutive games -- at Utah (Jan. 24), at Colorado (Jan. 26) and vs. Oregon State (Jan. 31) -- to help the Sun Devils come out on top.
Brunner and Moos have proven to be two of ASU's biggest difference makers this season. In fact, the two had nearly identical statistics from their respective post positions. This season the two combined for 15.0 ppg and 12.8 rebounds per game while collectively making 50.5 percent of their field goals. Brunner notched double figures in scoring 10 times and rebounds seven times and is the owner of 4 double-doubles while Moos has scored in double figures 10 times and has posted double digits in rebounds four times and has a pair of double-doubles.
The Sun Devils (22-8, 11-7 Pac-12) finished fourth in the Pac-12 regular season standings.
