TUCSON, Ariz.
– Arizona State overcame a triple-double by Arizona senior Davellyn Whyte, the first in the program's history, to outlast the Wildcats 81-77 in double-overtime on Tuesday night.

Whyte had 31 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists for the Wildcats (12-14, 4-11 Pac-12), but it wasn't enough to overcome the Sun Devils (12-15, 4-11).

“It was a great game for her at a statistical standpoint, but I’m sure she would rather have a win than a triple-double,” Arizona head coach Niya Butts said. “We can’t say enough about what she did. Obviously, she made plays in there, but as a team we didn’t do what we needed to do, but it’s definitely great for her.”

ASU used an 11-0 second-half run go up by six points, but Arizona fought back late to send the game into overtime.

The Sun Devils held the Wildcats scoreless for the final 2:08 of the second overtime and broke a 77-all tie on Micaela Pickens' jumper with 59 seconds to play. After Whyte missed a jumper, Janae Fulcher scored with 23 seconds left for the final margin.

Promise Amukamara led ASU with 21 points, Joy Burke had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Haley Videckis also scored 18. The Sun Devils had a 46-39 edge in rebounds and shot 46.6 percent from the field, compared with 43.7 percent for the Wildcats.

The two teams will meet in a rematch at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe.
