ASU volleyball hosts free scrimmage

The Arizona State volleyball team will host an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. Admission is free.
 
The Sun Devils will use the scrimmage as a final tuneup before the team opens the regular season on Aug. 24 in El Paso, Texas, at UTEP’s tournament. The 2012 squad returns 12 letterwinners from last year’s squad. The 12 returning players are joined by four freshmen, who as a class were was ranked the 21st-best recruiting class in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com. The Sun Devils were picked to finish eighth in the Pac-12 in a preseason poll of conference coaches.

The 2012 incoming Sun Devils consists of middle blocker Mercedes Binns, outside hitters Whitney Follette and Macey Gardner and setter Allison Palmer. They join a veteran roster that includes senior Erica Wilson and junior Alexis Pinson in the middle, junior libero Stephanie Preach, sophomore outside hitter Nora Tuioti-Mariner and sophomore setter Shannan McCready.
 
Following the conclusion of the scrimmage, a free skills clinic will take place on the court of Wells Fargo Arena for grades three through six. Registration forms will be handed out upon entrance through the West Tunnel starting at 1 p.m. The first 50 participants to turn in the registration will be eligible.
