ASU to face Oregon in WCWS opener
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The third-seeded Arizona State softball team will face 11th-seeded Oregon in the opener of the Women's College World Series at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The WCWS features a double-elimination format leading up to a best-of-three series between the final two teams.
The Sun Devils (51-9) got past Louisiana in the Super Regionals with a sweep on Friday to earn the program's 10th WCWS appearance. The Ducks (44-16) will be making their second WCWS trip and first since 1989.
The two teams played only in Eugene, Ore., this year, with each team taking one game (the Sun Devils lost the first 3-0 and won the second 7-4). ASU is 2-7 all-time against Pac-12 teams in the WCWS.
Also on ASU’s side of the bracket at the WCWS are seventh-seeded Tennessee (52-12) and second-seeded Alabama (55-7).
