TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sophomore running back D.J. Foster was limited in practice Tuesday after suffering a sprained ankle during Saturday's scrimmage. The injury is minor and Foster was jogging between drills but spent much of practice on a stationary bike.

-- After struggling early and getting bumped to second team, safety Ezekiel Bishop worked with the first team Tuesday, in part because Laiu Moeakiola, his competition to replace Keelan Johnson, was absent from practice due to a death in his family.

-- Defensive end Davon Coleman continues to work with the second-team defensive line, but there's been no explanation for his demotion from the first team. With Junior Onyeali still limited by a shoulder injury, Gannon Conway and Jake Sheffield have received first-team reps.

-- After moving to weak-side linebacker for a couple practices, Chris Young was back at the SPUR position Tuesday. That moved Grandville Taylor back to first team weak-side linebacker. Carlos Mendoza (shoulder) will compete for the spot when he's back to full health.

-- Coach Todd Graham, on sophomore wide receiver Richard Smith, who stood out during 11-on-11 drills: "I was very impressed. Rick's a guy that's got to step up and mature. He's got to get more physical. He's got great ability, but he's just got to understand the level you've got to work at, train at, and he's doing that."

-- Graham described Saturday's scrimmage as good but not great. He wanted it to be game-like but still felt it looked like practice. ASU scrimmages again Saturday at Sun Devil Stadium. The scrimmage is closed to the public and media.
