ASU softball routs Kentucky, Western Michigan

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State softball team improved to 5-0 Saturday by continuing to dominate its home tournament, routing Kentucky 8-0 in the first game and then shutting out Western Michigan 7-0.

The Sun Devils had 10 hits in their early game before getting a dominant performance on the mound from Mackenzie Popescue to finish the night on a high note.

Sam Parlich hit her first home run of the season against Kentucky in the second inning, giving her 18 in her career, tied her for 13th all-time at ASU. Amber Freeman, a sophomore, also homered and is now tied for 20th all-time in home runs with 15 in her career, including three this season.
 
Through five games, the Devils already have nine home runs as a team.

In the nightcap, Popescue tied her career high for strikeouts in a single game with eight as ASU dominated from start to finish.
 
The Devils will finish play at the Kajikawa Classic with a doubleheader Sunday. The early game against Bradley is scheduled for 11 a.m., while the Devils' final game at the event will be against Boise State at 1:30 p.m.
