Alix Johnson rocketed the Arizona State softball team's first grand slam of the season Sunday to secure an 11-5 win in six innings over New Mexico State.

The Sun Devils are now 25-2 after sweeping the Diamond Devil Invitational.

Johnson went 5 for 10 on the weekend with six RBIs, four of which came against the Aggies (16-12). Katelyn Boyd hit two home runs during the tournament, going 6 for 12 overall.

New Mexico State got on the board in the first, as back-to-back doubles from Valerie Swedberg and Kristi Covarrubia and a groundout from Kelsey Dodd gave the Aggies the first two runs of the game.

ASU's Amber Freeman cut the lead to one run at 2-1 after plating Johnson on a base hit in the bottom of the frame.

Katelyn Boyd then hit a monster three-run homer in the bottom of the second to put the Devils on top 4-2. The homer was her 11th of the year and her second of the weekend.

In the third inning, Tehani Kaaihue scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch to notch another run for New Mexico State, but Haley Steele answered with her fifth homer of the season, a drive down the left-field line, to make it 5-3.

NMSU responded again, as designated hitter Kelsey Dodd hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning to tie things up at 5-5. But ASU regained the lead when Boyd came around from second on a Johnson single to center field in the bottom half of the frame, and Johnson came around two at-bats later on a hit by Elizabeth Caporuscio to make it 7-5.

The lead widened dramatically in the fifth inning when, on a 3-1 count with the bases loaded, Johnson launched her first career grand slam. The Devils batted around in the fifth inning, with Steele walking in another run to extend the margin to 12-5.

Annie Lockwood finished off the mercy-rule win for ASU with an RBI single to left field that made it 13-5.

Hillary Bach earned the win after coming into the game in the third inning for Mackenzie Popescue. She improved to 11-0 on the year. Popescue went 2 2/3 innings and recorded one strikeout.

Aggies pitcher Alex Newman took the loss and fell to 8-8.
