TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State gradually unveiled its new-look uniforms ahead of Saturday's showcase game with Notre Dame, finishing the look Monday with a second new helmet in as many weeks.

The new helmet, which has a black base color, is covered in a maroon-and-yellow flame design with pitchforks on the sides and back. According to university officials, no two helmets feature the same flame design. The facemask, meanwhile, features a charred look and feel.

Also unveiled as part of the new uniform combination were new socks, arm sleeves and gloves.

"If you want to be a champion, you've got to look like a champion first," ASU coach Todd Graham said. "Looking sharp is part of being a champion."

Graham said he was heavily involved in the design of the helmet over the summer. A donor provided the funding to have them made.

"Our players had a lot of input," Graham said. "You know why I get excited about this? It's about recruiting. Perception is reality, and that brand is pretty special."

While the helmet, sleeves and gloves are new, the uniform combination is more a tweak of an existing uniform. ASU will wear its standard black jersey and black pants, although those are normally a home combination and the contest at Cowboys Stadium is technically a home game for Notre Dame.

"We're ready to showcase what the Sun Devils do," senior cornerback Osahon Irabor said. "We're very excited to wear these uniforms for the fans and represent Sun Devil nation with character, class and integrity."

ASU also rolled out new helmets for last Saturday's game against USC. Those helmets, which had been previously seen in a leaked photo, featured an oversized pitchfork on one side and each player's number on the other.

In August, Notre Dame revealed completely new uniforms of its own for the game against ASU. The content is part of Notre Dame's Shamrock Series, which allows the Fighting Irish to play home games at different locations around the country each season.
