ASU opens NCAA volleyball tourney vs. BYU
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State volleyball team (19-13) received its second consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament and will face BYU (22-6) on Friday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. in Honolulu, Hawaii.
No. 11 seed Hawaii (24-4) is the host team and will face Idaho State (23-11) on Saturday, Dec. 7, as part of first-round action. The first-round winners will meet on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 10 p.m.
“We’re very excited,” said head coach Jason Watson, who was head coach at BYU before being hired by ASU. “We felt that the body of work we were able to accomplish this season was worthy of consideration, and when our name was called, it was a wonderful feeling. We’re excited to represent both the Pac-12 and ASU, and for me, I’m excited to continue to coach this wonderful team.”
“BYU is of course, one of the perennial nationally competitive teams in the country,” Watson said. “They’re a remarkable school with deep and rich history and success in the NCAA Tournament, and it will be a challenge, a unique opportunity for us. Will prepare and do what we do and go compete and see what happens.”
ASU is one of nine schools from the Pac-12 Conference to get a bid to the tournament. The top four seeds in the 64-team tournament are No. 1 Texas; No. 2 Penn State; No. 3 Washington; and No. 4 Missouri.
