ASU lands top juco running back
While Todd Graham is knowing for running a "high-octane offense" that emphasized the passing game, he seems to be making a splash in recruiting with running backs.
Following last week's commitment of four-star in-state running back D.J. Foster, ASU added another big name to its corps of running backs Wednesday with the commitment of Marion Grice, a four-star junior-college back out of Blinn College (Texas).
Grice, formerly a Texas A&M commit, is rated the top juco running back in the country by both Scout and Rivals. He is listed at 6-foot, 210 pounds and reportedly runs a 4.5 40-yard dash, giving the sophomore an impressive combination of of a size and speed.
The signing of Grice gives ASU significant backfield depth, as along with the addition of Foster, the Sun Devils return starter Cameron Marshall as well as Kyle Middlebrooks and Deantre Lewis, who missed all of last season while recovering from a gunshot wound after sharing time with Marshall as a freshman.
Grice has two years of eligibility remaining and also has a redshirt year available.
Grice fills a void created when Arizona Western running back Damien Williams, the nation's junior college rushing leader, decommitted following the coaching change. Williams signed with Oklahoma.
But the Sun Devils did land Williams' Arizona Western teammate Steffon Martin, a three-star linebacker who was also being pursued by Oregon State and Arkansas.
ASU also landed safety Laiu Moeakiola (6-0, 195) of Trinity High School in Euless, Texas. He's a three-star prospect who decommitted from UCLA.
