Arizona to wear red helmets against ASU

First copper, now
red? Apparently so, as Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne tweeted
Sunday that the Wildcats will break out red helmets Friday night for the Territorial Cup game against Arizona State:

Arizona, which
normally alternates white and navy helmets, also introduced a copper lid
earlier this year as a salute to the state's copper mining tradition.
Arizona previously wore red helmets from 1968-71 and from
1977-80.

The school also unveiled a "Red Out"
campaign to go along with the new helmets, with fans urged to wear red Friday night for the rivalry game at Arizona Stadium.

Fan campaign aside, Arizona has started the week by
stealing just a bit of the spotlight. Seeing as how it was Arizona State that
started the uniform war last year with a massive unveiling of
uniform/helmet combinations that have since been mixed and matched
liberally, it will be interesting to see what happens in Tempe on the
apparel front this week.

Your move,
Sun Devils.
