Arizona State women race past Illinois State
NORMAL, Ill. -- Quinn Dornstauder scored a career-high 19 points, Promise Amukamara added 14 and Sophie Brunner gave her hometown fans plenty to cheer about as she scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in ASU's 89-44 win over Illinois State.
Tuesday night's game was a homecoming for Illinois natives Brunner and Katie Hempen.
The Sun Devils (8-1) shot 51 percent from the field while limiting Illinois State (0-8) to 34 percent. ASU also enjoyed a 45-30 advantage in rebounds, including 18-7 in offensive boards, which led to 18 second-chance points. The Sun Devils also scored 29 points off the 25 turnovers they forced.
Dornstauder, who had her first double-figure scoring performance of the season (10 points) in ASU's win over UC Davis on Saturday, was 9-of-12 from floor on Tuesday.
Also having a big role in the win was Elisha Davis, who had a career-high 11 assists (zero turnovers) to go with four steals, three rebounds and two points.
The Sun Devils built a 17-point halftime lead, 41-24, and used several second-half runs to eventually build their lead to 49 points.
The Sun Devils return to action this weekend when they host the ASU Classic, which will feature Lehigh, Northwestern and Eastern Illinois. ASU takes on unbeaten Lehigh at 1 p.m. Saturday.
