Arizona lands three-star quarterback Dawkins

Arizona might already have its quarterback of the future on the roster, pending the results of this fall's camp competition, but coach Rich Rodriguez and Co. will have another highly touted prospect to add to the mix next year.

Dual-threat quarterback Brandon Dawkins of California powerhouse Westlake Village Oaks Christian committed to Arizona on Thursday, making him the program's first QB commit in the 2014 class. Watson is rated by Scout as a three-star recruit and the 23rd-best quarterback nationally.

Listed at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, Dawkins has started for the past two seasons at Oaks Christian, which previously produced top quarterback recruits such as Jimmy Clausen and Nick Montana. As a junior in 2012, he completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 2,135 yards with 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, and he added 486 yards and seven scores on the ground.

Dawkins also had offers from Notre Dame, North Carolina State, Utah and Hawaii, according to Scout, and he had recently visited Ohio State, USC and UCLA. He is the 14th commit overall in Arizona's 2014 class.

In last year's recruiting class, the Wildcats signed four-star quarterback Anu Solomon from Las Vegas power Bishop Gorman and two-star QB Khari McGee out of Fresno, Calif. They also have senior B.J. Denker, the presumptive favorite to start going into fall camp; juco transfer Jesse Scroggins, a former USC backup who has two years of eligibility remaining; and Nick Isham, a redshirt sophomore who started seven games at Louisiana Tech in 2011 as a true freshman.
