Geovany Soto isn't the only player joining the Texas Rangers for their trip to Toronto.
J.P. Arencibia, who was sent to Triple A after a disastrous start to the season, had his contract purchased by the Rangers. To make a roster spot for Arencibia, the Rangers designated for assignment another light-hitting infielder in Carlos Pena.
Arencibia batted just .133 with the Rangers before getting sent to Round Rock in May. With the Express, Arencibia had 41 RBI and including 15 in July alone. He batted .279 in Triple A.
While he was sent down as a catcher he'll return to the Rangers and see the majority of his action at first base. He played in 20 games at first for Round Rock and will see action there with Texas along with Chris Gimenez.
The first-place playing time figures to change again soon as Jim Adduci is close to returning to the roster. Adduci has worked primarily at first during his rehab and unlike Arencibia and Gimenez, he's a left-handed hitter.
The playing time behind the plate will be split between Soto and Robinson Chirinos.
Texas signed Pena last month to try and fill the void created by the season-ending injuries to Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland. But Pena hit just .136 in 59 at-bats and provided little pop (one home run, two RBI).
