The Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday revealed plans regarding how the team intends to pay a fitting tribute to Mike Trout in a truly remarkable way: By erecting a life-sized bobblehead of its young superstar outside Angel Stadium.
Standing at 6-foot-2, the concept of creating and dedicating the ridiculously large bobblehead statue was due in part to celebrate the 23-year-old outfielder winning the American League MVP award last season.
The official unveiling is scheduled for Friday in the Music Garden/Trout Farm area outside the ballpark at 5:00, a few hours before the Angles host the Texas Rangers to kick-off a three-game series.
Trout, who sat out his first game of the season on Tuesday due to a sore heel — although he is expected to be back in the lineup Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins — reportedly will take time out of his pregame preparations to take part in the ceremony.
Trout reportedly appeared stumped when asked before Tuesday’s game if the bobblehead weighs in at 235 pounds, like him. Eric Kay, the Angels communication director, stepped in and described the bobblehead as “thick.”
“Thanks, E.K.,” Trout quipped while seated in front of his locker, adding, “I can’t wait to see it. I think it’s pretty cool.”
Cool, indeed. Sure, a regular-sized bobblehead that can fit in the palm of one’s hand is great. But a life-sized one? That’s some serious awesomeness, something worthy of Trout’s unquestioned talent, larger-than-life persona and ever-increasing fame.
