Angels OF Cowgill to see specialist for wrist injury

Collin Cowgill will see a specialist Monday in Arizona since his rehabilitation from his right wrist injury has not progressed as the Angels hoped.

Cowgill, who was placed on the disabled list with a right wrist sprain on May 28, could've come off the disabled list on Wednesday had he been healthy.

"He had surgery on it before from the same doctor," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He'll get re-evaluated and then we'll see where we are. He's hit a little bit of a plateau. Our medical department wants to make sure we're not missing anything."

After the Angels' series against the Oakland Athletics ends Sunday, they'll play two games against the Diamondbacks at Angels Stadium before leaving Wednesday for two games in Arizona. The plan is for Cowgill to meet the Angels back in Arizona.

Cowgill, who has primarily played left field for the Angels, was batting .180 with 2 RBIs and four walks before the injury. Five players have played left field for the Angels this season -- Cowgill, Matt Joyce, Kirk Nieuwenhuis (who was recently designated for assignment and claimed Saturday by the Mets), Efren Navarro and Alfredo Marte.

The Angels are 6-5 when Cowgill starts in left field.
