LOS ANGELES -- Alec Martinez remembers scoring the winning goal. After that, he's not too sure what happened.
For the second time in the Kings' past two playoff series, Martinez delivered the winner. His shot ripped past New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to give the Kings a 3-2 win in the second overtime for their second Stanley Cup in three seasons.
But he didn't remember much about it.
"After it went in, I think I blacked out," he said. "I think I tossed my gear, but like I said, I'm just so happy for these guys."
Martinez also scored the winning goal against the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference final, doing it in the second overtime in Game 7.
Kings' title has different feeling second time around
Asked afterward if he was now the Kings' Mr. Overtime, he said curtly, "No. It's not about me or my goal, it's about the team win."
Martinez insisted he was simply in the right place at the right time. A shot by Tyler Toffoli struck the right pad of Lundqvist, and Martinez drove in the rebound at the 14-minute, 43-second mark of the second OT.
"It was just a loose puck in our own end," he said. "I just wanted to get it into the forwards' hands, let them do their thing. I'm not sure who it was on that drive, but Toffoli had a great shot (that hit the) far pad. I was just fortunate that it came on my stick and I was able to put it in."
Asked why he was well into the Rangers' zone, Martinez said, "Our coaching staff, they always encourage the 'D' to join the rush and join in on the offense. That's what I tried to do."
The fact it was his goal that clinched the Cup didn't seem to matter. It could have been any of his teammates and he would have been just as happy.
"It was a special feeling, obviously," he said. "But I don't care who scores the goal as long as it's someone in our room."
