Florida State of the 1990s…
USC under Pete Carroll last decade…
And currently the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Since Nick Saban arrival in Tuscaloosa in 2007, no one has out recruited Alabama during this stretch… and it’s not even close.
The scary part is that there is no end in sight. We are not even to May and Saban and company have already committed 15 blue-chippers and are currently atop the Scout.com National Recruiting Rankings.
Roll tide roll.
The Crimson Tide battle cry could certainly pertain to how they have recruited over the last week, as Alabama has been on an absolute tear. Coming off their spring game on Saturday they have reeled in five prospects, including four in a forty minute span following the game.
That quartet are cornerbacks Minkah Fitzpatrick (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peters Prep) and Calvin Ridley (Coconut Creek, Fla./Monarch), safety Shawn Burgess-Becker (Coconut Creek, Fla./Monarch) and linebacker Leo Lewis (Brookhaven, Miss.), are all four-star recruits and members of the Scout 300. Ridley and Burgess-Becker are special talents from south Florida. They are also tremendous wide receivers and are good enough to play on either side of the ball.
Did you notice they are all out of state recruits? That’s what has made Saban’s run so impressive. Alabama has had recruiting success in every part of the country. They can go into anyone’s back yard and pull prospects. In this class alone 11 of their pledges are out of state kids. That has been a huge theme for this coaching staff over the years.
Yesterday, they went the more tradition route, landing a player from just down the road in defensive end Christian Bell (Hoover, Ala.).
There’s a reason why Alabama has played for some many championships under Saban… because they recruit like champions.
No one has done it better of late, as the beat goes on for the Crimson Tide.
