Akron repels late surge to beat Coppin State 77-66

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Reggie McAdams scored 16 points and made 4 of 8 from 3-point range to lead Akron to a 77-66 victory over Coppin State on Tuesday night.

Akron (7-5) built a 42-27 halftime advantage and maintained its lead between 12 and 18 until Coppin State used an 8-0 run to close within 58-51 with 6:30 to play.

Pat Forsythe answered with two free throws for Akron and Quincy Diggs followed with a 3-pointer to put the Zips up 63-51 with 5:17 to go. Akron stayed comfortably in front for the remainder of the game.

Jake Kretzer made 3 of 6 3-pointers and finished with 13 points and Demetrius Treadwell and Deji Ibitayo added 11 apiece for Akron.

Michael Murray led Coppin State (4-9) with 19 points to go with seven rebounds and five steals. Andre Armstrong added 13 points, Charles Ieans had 12 and Sterling Smith 11.
