Akron gets past Central Michigan 63-43
AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Zeke Marshall scored 16 points and Akron dominated Central Michigan inside for a 63-43 victory Sunday night.
The Zips (12-9, 3-4 Mid-American Conference) owned a 32-12 advantage on points scored in the paint. Led by Nikola Cvetinovic's 10 boards, they outrebounded Central Michigan 38-30 and held its top scorers, Trey Zeigler and Jalin Thomas, to 7-of-28 shooting and well below their scoring averages.
As a result, they led from the 15:38 mark in the first half on. The Zips led by as many as 22 points in the second half.
Central Michigan (5-15, 2-5) lost its third in a row -- all games in which it has failed to score at least 60 points. The Chippewas are 5-4 in games they score 60 or more, 0-11 in the others. Derek Jackson led Central Michigan with 11 points. Zeigler, Thomas and Finis Craddock each had 10. That's seven below Zeigler's average, five below Thomas'.
