After 30 years, Sooner band earns another game ball
The last time the Oklahoma band received a game ball was 1983.
It had apparently been too long.
Back in 1983, the band received an "honorary" game ball from then coach Barry Switzer who handed out a 5X7 glossy color photo of the ball after the Sooners beat Oklahoma State.
Now, spin it ahead to September of 2015. The Sooners won 31-24 in double overtime earlier this season at Tennessee and each member of the band will receive an actual game ball. You can see the photo here.
According to The Oklahoman, the athletic department at OU decided The Pride of Oklahoma (The Sooner band) earned another game ball. There are 124 members of the band, which includes twirlers, staff and director Brian Britt, who was a freshman in the 1983 band, the last time the band was honored in this way.
Britt shared his feelings on Facebook. Check it out .
