Abilene Christian's Hail Mary nearly 'upsets' New Mexico State
New Mexico State is bad. Really bad.
So when FCS Abilene Christian came to town on Saturday, the Aggies appeared to be in good shape to get their first win of the season.
Instead, they did almost everything they could to remain as one of college football's worst teams.
ACU fought back in the final minute with a touchdown to trim their deficit to 34-29 with 19 seconds remaining.
After the Wildcats recovered an on-side kick, quarterback John David Baker tossed up a prayer from their own 21 yard line and found receiver Monte Green-Avery, who then lateraled it to fellow receiver Taylor Gabriel as his sprinted toward the end zone.
But one of the year's most sensational plays fell short at the 6 yard line.
New Mexico State got the win, but avoiding the "upset" is hardly an effort to be proud of.
