A winner in her debut: Miss Freeze takes Lynbrook Stakes
NEW YORK (AP) Miss Freeze launched her career with a 6 1/4-length victory Sunday in the $125,000 Lynbrook Stakes for 2-year-old fillies, the closing day feature at Belmont Park.
Miss Freeze was the unknown factor, the only runner in the New York bred race who had not made a start.
The future looks bright as she romped to an 8-1 upset with Jose Ortiz, the meet's leading rider, in the saddle.
The filly trained by David Cannizzo ran the six furlongs in 1:11.98.
Miss Freeze paid $19.80, $7.20 and $3.70.
Wilburnmoney recovered from a stumble at the start to get second, returning $3.50 and $2.40.
Paz the Bourbon paid $2.10 to show as the even-money favorite.
Ortiz easily won the meet's jockey title with 78 wins. His brother Irad was second with 57.
Chad Brown took the training title by a 38-25 margin over Todd Pletcher.
New York racing shifts to Saratoga on Friday.
