2013 Fantasy Minute: AFC West Breakout Player

2013 Fantasy Minute: AFC West Breakout Player

My 2013 fantasy football breakout star coming out of the AFC West is Chargers' wide receiver Vincent Brown. Other nominees considered were Chiefs' wide receiver Dwayne Bowe (a "breakout" compared to the last few seasons in KC), Broncos' running back Montee Ball and Raiders' receiver Denarius Moore.

No question the San Diego Chargers' offense was placed behind the eight ball this preseason.  First, they lost Danario Alexander (my previous breakout stud) to a torn ACL, then Malcom Floyd injured his knee, rookie receiver Keenan Allen has had knee issues, and then Eddie Royal bruised a lung.

This opens the door for Brown and Antonio Gates to flourish within Mike McCoy's offense.  When I spoke with Chargers' beat reporter, Michael Gehlken, last month, he said Brown's role out of the slot is crucial to McCoy's underneath passing routes.  He could be in for a big year and worthy of a look after the 10th round.
